Steel Structures for Grain Silos

The harmony between structural, conveying, and grain storage systems is essential for the optimal performance of any storage plant. Grain silos do not operate as isolated elements; they rely on a network of metal structures that ensure functionality, safety, and efficiency across the facility.

These steel structures fulfil multiple purposes: they can provide support for the silos themselves or for conveying equipment, enable safe access for inspection and maintenance tasks, and facilitate connections between the silos and other parts of the plant.

Catwalks and Support Towers

Catwalks are key components that support the loading equipment and make it easier to maintain and operate the silo installation. Meanwhile, support towers are specially designed to bear the loads transmitted by the catwalks, transferring them directly to the foundation to guarantee maximum structural stability.

Elevator and Dome Supports

Elevator towers are commonly used in facilities where grain reception is centralised — for instance, in port terminals or plants equipped with multiple bucket elevators.
On the other hand, dome supports, positioned above the silo roof, are designed according to the performance of the conveying machinery and the type of catwalk installed, ensuring optimal load distribution and alignment.

Lateral and Oblique Supports

Lateral supports are typically used for light conveying systems, while oblique supports can be added depending on the silo and catwalk model to reinforce the structure and enhance its rigidity.

Precision in Every Detail

Every steel structure must be precisely engineered to fit each silo and its specific operating conditions.

At Silos Spain, achieving harmony between structural, conveying, and storage systems is a core part of every project. Through advanced design tools and high-quality materials, the company provides efficient, durable structural systems tailored to the unique needs of each installation — delivering the reliability and performance demanded by today’s and tomorrow’s grain storage facilities.
