dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health’s environmental footprint platform Sustell has partnered with SustainCERT, an independent validation and verification body, to give animal protein producers access to verification services and carbon registry capabilities through SustainCERT’s Carbon Management Platform.
The Sustell SustainCERT partnership addresses a widely recognised challenge: while demand for transparent and verifiable sustainability data is growing, the quality, consistency and verifiability of underlying emissions data — particularly for Scope 3 — remains a significant obstacle.
Sustell is an ISO-certified animal protein footprinting platform supporting life cycle assessment across crop production, feed manufacturing, animal farming and processing. It enables producers to calculate product-level environmental footprints using farm-specific data collected directly from producers, rather than relying solely on industry averages. This supports progress toward Scope 3 targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, in compliance with the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard.
Under the Sustell SustainCERT partnership, data verified by SustainCERT can be transferred to the Carbon Management Platform, which accommodates both verified and unverified data and allows organisations to register, attribute and claim Scope 3 data across the value chain. A unitisation system for emissions data mitigates the risk of double counting and over-claiming, while registry capabilities provide a mechanism for transferring verified data between value-chain partners.
