Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has officially opened its expanded processing complex in Yorkton, Canada, featuring a new pea protein production facility and a major expansion of its canola crushing operations, representing the largest capital project in the company’s history.
The LDC Yorkton expansion more than doubles canola crushing capacity at the site to over two million tonnes annually, positioning the facility as one of North America’s largest integrated oilseed processing hubs. It also includes a new pea protein plant capable of processing up to 75,000 tonnes of yellow peas per year into protein powder, fibre and starch for global food and beverage applications.
By the end of 2026, the Yorkton complex is expected to employ 260 people, creating 140 new jobs at the site, which has been in operation since 2009.
“This massive investment in Saskatchewan will not only bring more jobs and opportunities to the region, but it will also provide a convenient and profitable outlet for Saskatchewan’s agricultural producers to sell their commodities,” said Premier Scott Moe.
LDC CEO Michael Gelchie described the Yorkton development as the largest capital project in the company’s history. LDC’s pea protein products are non-allergen and non-GMO, with full supply chain traceability and are expected to serve growing demand in plant-based food, pet food and animal nutrition markets.
