ADM has announced a multimillion-dollar investment to increase throughput at its grain elevator in Optima, a town in Oklahoma, USA, with upgrades expected to reduce train unload times by approximately 50 percent.
The project will add 150 cars of additional track capacity and one new rail unloading pit with two hard car diggers. The ADM Optima grain elevator investment is designed to increase throughput of both corn and corn gluten feed pellets, strengthening the movement of grain and feed products through ADM’s North American supply chain.
“ADM’s vast North American logistics network connects tens of thousands of farmers to markets, and our Optima facility plays a critical role in connecting grain and feed products from across the country to livestock markets in the Panhandle region,” said Tim McHenry, vice president of North America Grain & Feed at ADM. “We continue to see demand increasing, making efficient movement of grain and feed ingredients especially important.”
Facility context
The Optima facility serves one of the country’s largest livestock-feeding regions. ADM has nearly 1200 employees across Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, with a regional footprint that includes nearly 20 production facilities, 20 crop procurement locations, a trucking terminal, and an ocean port.
“The Optima project reflects our commitment to continuously improving the way we operate,” said Michael Means, ADM’s vice president of North American Milling and Ag Services Operations. “We’re not just adding capacity; we’re making the entire unloading process safer, more reliable and more efficient.”
The project is expected to be completed by mid-year 2027.
