Across northern Italy, a series of grain storage projects shows how millers and grain handlers are responding to less predictable supply chains by investing in the part of the plant that protects quality and continuity. The projects, delivered and under construction by Cesco EPC, share a common thread: not capacity alone, but control.
In the province of Cuneo, a flour mill now receives wheat by both train and truck, with intake aspiration and filtration at the reception points. Grain moves through CC420 and CC550 chain conveyors, a BBE660 belt bucket elevator and an RBC650E roller belt conveyor at 400 t/h. Steel hopper bottom silos provide storage, with dedicated truck outloading silos for dispatch, bringing total capacity to 25,000 tonnes. Rail intake reduces exposure to road transport costs and allows larger consignments of imported wheat to arrive from the port in a single movement.
Further east in Alessandria, a cereal homogenisation and dosing plant is under construction from 2026 to 2027. Eight hopper bottom silos (HBS 12.20/16/45) provide 16,000 tonnes of capacity, with a CC420 chain conveyor, BBE370 belt bucket elevator and RBC800M belt conveyor handling 200 t/h. Temperature monitoring, aeration, spot filters and dedicated steel access structures are integrated from the start. Hopper bottom silos discharge completely, allowing the mill to draw defined quantities from several cells at once and feed a controlled blend to the cleaning and milling line.

Near Vicenza, an existing square silo battery has been extended with 16 new rectangular steel silos, KF25 chain conveyors, dosing screw conveyors, ventilation channels and a product temperature monitoring system. The addition brings 1100 tonnes of storage at 37.5 t/h. The figures are smaller, but the challenge differs: the new cells had to fit an operating plant and connect to existing equipment with minimal disruption to production.
The largest project is in Mantua, in the centre of the Po Valley grain belt, where an integrated receiving, drying, storage and rehandling plant is scheduled from 2026 to 2027. It combines truck receiving with dust aspiration, rotary and screen cleaners, continuous flow dryers, flat bottom silos (FBS 15.30/11) and hopper bottom silos, with sweep chain conveyors, ventilation, thermometry and train outloading. Chain conveyors and belt bucket elevators move up to 250 t/h, and total storage reaches 26,000 tonnes, allowing the site to receive, dry, store and dispatch grain simultaneously.
In March 2026, Cesco integrated Cesco EPC Italia and TechnoBins into a single company, Cesco EPC Srl, based in Reggio Emilia, combining international EPC project management with process silo and steel structure expertise.
