Ukrainian ports handle record 97 million tonnes of cargo in 2024

Ukrainian ports set a new record in 2024 by handling 97.2 million tonnes of cargo, surpassing the previous year’s total of 62 million tonnes. The increase in cargo volume was driven primarily by grain and ore, which accounted for 60.3 million tonnes and 18.5 million tonnes, respectively, according to the State Enterprise ‘Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.’

The Ukrainian sea corridor’s stability was highlighted as a key factor in this growth, particularly the coordinated efforts of the Greater Odesa ports. The functioning of the corridor was supported by the Ukrainian Naval Forces, ensuring security for the route.

In export traffic, Ukrainian ports transported 76.4 million tonnes to 52 countries. The corridor was used by 3138 vessels. Additionally, Danube ports transhipped 17.3 million tonnes, further supporting exports. The growth in cargo turnover was attributed to international support and collaboration between the government, stevedoring companies, farmers, and logistics providers.
