Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) recognised the growing demand in livestock and aquaculture for advanced micronutrition solutions. Customers increasingly sought precision nutritional products that not only provide vitamins and minerals but also support gut health, improve resilience and enhance overall animal performance. In response, Cargill consolidated its micronutrition expertise into a dedicated Micronutrition & Health Solutions unit, combining capabilities from Diamond V, Delacon and Provimi. This integrated approach has supported consistent double-digit growth, reflecting the global market’s appetite for science-driven, holistic animal nutrition.
To meet rising demand, Cargill expanded its Engerwitzdorf, Austria production facility in November 2025. The upgrade added six large raw-material silos, increasing annual micronutrient production capacity by 50 percent, enough to fortify up to 200 million metric tonnes of feed. Automation played a central role in the expansion. Ninety percent of labour-intensive tasks, from raw material handling to mixing and loading, are now automated. A container lifting system moves large volumes with minimal manual intervention, significantly enhancing throughput and efficiency.
Maintaining product quality was a priority. The facility houses an in-house laboratory conducting more than 25,000 analyses per year on raw materials, intermediates and final blends. Safety and worker well-being were equally emphasised: automated narrow-aisle forklifts and a compressed-air system reduce exposure to high-risk equipment, noise and dust, creating a safer, more comfortable working environment.
Sustainability was integrated into every aspect of the expansion. The facility is powered entirely by renewable energy, including hydropower and solar panels, and uses a biomass system fuelled with locally sourced wood chips for heating. These measures reduce the carbon footprint and align operations with the growing expectations of customers who prioritise environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
The facility’s enhanced capabilities allow Cargill to better meet global demand for next-generation micronutrition.
