Plukon, a major poultry supplier in Europe, has implemented Minebea Intec’s Mitus metal detector to improve metal detection in poultry products. The new technology addresses challenges in detecting metallic contaminants, which are especially difficult in poultry due to its high conductivity, often causing false rejections and product waste.
The poultry industry follows strict food safety protocols, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), where metal detection is critical to preventing contamination. However, traditional metal detectors often struggle to accurately detect metals in poultry, leading to unnecessary rejects and potential safety risks.
According to Minebea, the Mitus metal detector is designed specifically for the poultry industry, offering improved detection sensitivity, reducing false rejects and product wastage. The MiWave technology is meant to enhance the device’s ability to detect even the smallest metallic contaminants, ensuring better product safety while meeting HACCP standards. The Mitus is designed for easier and more efficient cleaning, a key requirement in food production.

Since the installation of the Mitus detectors, Plukon has reported a significant improvement in operational efficiency. The reduction in false rejections has led to fewer disruptions in the production process, helping the company save time and reduce costs.
Plukon, which operates 30 branches and employs 9,000 people, is a key supplier of poultry products in Europe.
