With the successful Partnering for Progress—Synergizing Gut Health and Genetics meeting conducted during Poultry India, Ecolex Animal Nutrition and CJ Bio reached a significant turning point in their expanding partnership. The event brought together progressive poultry farmers, nutritionists and distributors eager to explore next-generation, natural approaches to gut health, an area critical to tackling enteric diseases, one of the biggest threats to poultry productivity.
Edward Manchester, Global Commercial Director at Ecolex, underlined the need of future-proofing poultry enterprises as consumer demand for antibiotic-free products develops. He pointed out that even while India now permits the use of antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs), the sector needs to move towards long-term, scientifically based solutions that improve production, animal welfare, and the reduction of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Manchester also emphasised Ecolex’s progress since its foundation in 2005—from a leader in rumen bypass fats and emulsification technology to a provider of new, branded nutrition solutions.
During the event, guests were exposed to two of the collaboration’s core natural offerings: GutLuk, a phytogenic gut health solution and AGP replacement, and Coxield, a phytogenic substitute for chemical anticoccidials.
The mechanism of action of GutLuk, which targets bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity to conserve conjugated bile acids in the intestine, was described by Dr. Loi Chia Fei, Product Manager for Gut Health at CJ Bio. These conjugated bile acids retain potent antibacterial qualities that aid in the management of infections like Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens, and E. coli. Additionally, GutLuk strengthens gut integrity by providing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects without worrying about resistance or residues.
While commensal bacteria like Lactobacilli naturally make BSH to deconjugate bile acids, pathogens do not—a distinction utilised by GutLuk to maintain strong antimicrobial protection throughout the small intestine.
Dr. Loi also offered Coxield, a natural, residue-free alternative to pharmaceutical anticoccidial medications and vaccinations. Coxield acts in three ways: it kills Eimeria sporozoites, stops cell invasion, and stops merozoite growth. This multi-stage protection minimises lesion scores and oocyst shedding while enhancing grill performance. Producers can manage coccidiosis more effectively and safely thanks to its compatibility with synthetic anticoccidials and adaptability for shuttle, rotation, or bio-shuttle programs.
Multiple in-vivo and in-vitro trials in broilers and layers were shared, demonstrating the efficacy and mechanisms of action of both GutLuk and Coxield.
The conference highlighted Ecolex and CJ Bio’s joint commitment to developing sustainable chicken farming across India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. By combining scientific expertise, regional insight and a growing array of natural solutions, the alliance aims to enable healthier, more resilient and more lucrative poultry systems throughout South Asia.
