Alltech has expanded its mycotoxin testing programme, Alltech RAPIREAD, through a new partnership with Waters-VICAM. The collaboration integrates Vicam’s Vertu TOUCH lateral flow strip test reader with Alltech’s Rapiread system, enabling the detection of up to six major mycotoxins, including aflatoxin, fumonisin, vomitoxin (DON), zearalenone, ochratoxin A, and T-2/HT-2 toxins.
According to Alltech’s 2024 Harvest Analysis, over 95% of crops are contaminated with at least one type of mycotoxin, which can adversely affect animal health and productivity. These toxins are often difficult to detect until damage occurs, making effective management essential for agricultural producers. The Vertu Touch reader, which provides a touch-screen interface, delivers quantitative data within 10 minutes. This tool complements Alltech Rapiread’s existing testing capabilities, which were launched in 2020 in collaboration with Neogen for rapid on-site mycotoxin testing in grains and forages.
Dr. Alexandra Weaver, Global Technical Support at Alltech, emphasized that the expanded testing capabilities will help producers assess mycotoxin risks more effectively and take necessary measures to protect animal health and production.
This partnership with Waters-VICAM also enables Alltech to test complete feed, further broadening the programme’s scope and enhancing its ability to provide accurate, timely data for agricultural producers.
