Three research projects awarded EUR 1 Million in Adisseo research grant

Adisseo has announced the winners of its third Research Grant, awarding three projects a total of 1 million euros over the next three years. The scientific committee, composed of academic and industry experts, selected the winners for their contributions to addressing global challenges such as climate change and advancing animal production.

This year’s grant focused on swine and poultry research, particularly swine. Out of 50 proposals, the winning projects aim to optimise feed intake, evaluate energy requirements, and improve protein efficiency in pigs.

One winning project, FEAST-PIG, led by Prof. Nadia Everaert from KU Leuven (Belgium), studies appetite signals in pigs to optimise feed intake. It is a collaboration with UNIBO (Italy) and ILVO (Belgium).

Another project, Precision Feeding Models for Sustainable Swine Production, coordinated by Dr. Jay Johnson from the University of Missouri (USA), will assess energy needs and environmental impacts on gestating sows. The research involves several international partners, including Purdue University (USA) and University of Melbourne (Australia).

The third project, Continuous Monitoring of Protein Efficiency for Smarter Protein Nutrition in Weaned Piglets, led by Prof. Jeroen Degroote from Ghent University (Belgium), will develop more efficient protein nutrition strategies for piglets, in collaboration with Agroscope (Switzerland).

Estelle Devillard, Scientific Director for Nutrition and Health at Adisseo, emphasized the importance of the Research Grant in fostering innovation and global collaboration for sustainable solutions to climate change and animal production.

The Adisseo Research Grant is evaluated by an Independent Scientific Committee that carefully reviewed the 50 submissions before selecting the winners.
