Saudi Arabia inaugurates Yanbu Grain Handling Terminal

The National Grain Company, a joint venture between the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Co. (SALIC) and Bahri, opened the Yanbu Grain Handling Terminal on 22 December at Yanbu Commercial Port. The terminal is designed to handle feed grains and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s food security strategy.

The facility includes 12 silos with a total capacity of 96,000 tonnes, a 650-meter conveyor belt, and an unloading capacity of 800 tonnes per hour. The terminal can handle up to three million tonnes of grain annually. It is equipped to store 156,000 tonnes of grains, including barley, corn, and soybeans.

The terminal’s inauguration was attended by Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, along with officials from SALIC, Bahri, and other sectors. Al-Fadley emphasised that the new terminal will improve grain importation and distribution, enhance supply chains, and help stabilise prices in Saudi Arabia.

SALIC Group CEO, Suleiman Al-Rumaih, noted the terminal’s role in boosting grain imports and distribution in the animal feed sector. He added that the facility will support the private sector by providing opportunities in feed manufacturing and raising storage capacity for better flexibility in responding to global market changes. Bahri CEO, Ahmed Al-Subaie, highlighted the strategic partnership between Bahri and SALIC, which aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals for food security. He also emphasized the role of Bahri’s fleet in facilitating the terminal’s objectives.

Vishvendra Kumar Chakravarthy, CEO of the National Grain Company, said the terminal would serve as a regional hub for grain imports. He also announced plans for future expansions, including adding more silos to increase storage and handling capacity. The National Grain Company, formed in 2020, aims to meet Saudi Arabia’s future feed grain needs and enhance competitiveness. The Yanbu terminal is expected to serve as a unique global logistics gateway linking three continents.
