Innovafeed joins new platform to measure avoided emissions across 65 sectors

Innovafeed, a producer of insect-based ingredients, has been included in the Avoided Emissions Platform (AEP), a new global initiative aimed at measuring “scope 4” emissions avoided through low-carbon solutions across 65 sectors.

The AEP, supported by over 30 partners and led by organisations such as Quantis, Mirova, and Robeco, introduces a unified method for assessing emissions avoided through innovation. Innovafeed’s participation marks recognition of the insect protein industry as a viable tool for emission reduction in agriculture and food systems.

“Insects are a measurable solution for transforming agri-food systems,” said Clément Ray, CEO and co-founder of Innovafeed. “The AEP provides the most current data on the real-world impact of our solutions.”

The company’s inclusion follows years of collaboration with Quantis, a consultancy specialising in life cycle assessments. The methodology behind AEP is overseen by an independent scientific committee, ensuring transparency and consistency.

Industry bodies, including IPIFF (International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed), welcomed the move, calling it a step toward integrating insect farming into the EU’s green finance framework.

The platform is also designed to support investors in identifying high-impact climate solutions. By offering a science-based tool to quantify avoided emissions, AEP aims to direct more capital toward sustainable technologies.
