The milling and grain community is mourning the loss of Harvey Lee McCray, who passed away on February 9, 2026, at the age of 94. McCray served as Executive Vice President of the Association of Operative Millers (AOM) from 1989 until his retirement in 2001, guiding the organisation during a period of global growth and professional development for millers worldwide.
Born in Columbia, Missouri, USA, McCray graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Business Administration and Public Relations, after serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He brought decades of leadership experience to AOM, supporting educational programs, standards development, and international industry networking.
Under his leadership, AOM strengthened its global connections, fostering knowledge exchange and training initiatives that remain foundational for milling professionals today. Colleagues recall McCray as a mentor and advocate for millers, combining strategic vision with a personal commitment to community and professional growth.
A memorial service will be held at on March 9, at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, Columbia, Missouri. The IAOM community has encouraged members to honour his contributions to the milling industry and his enduring legacy in advancing the profession.
