Grains Australia has been selected to join Austrade’s new Trade Diversification Network (TDM), part of a $50 million Australian Government initiative aimed at helping exporters grow and diversify overseas markets.
As a member of the TDM, Grains Australia will work with Austrade to co-design a formal Trade Diversification Plan for the Australian grains industry, setting out a coordinated program of activities such as technical workshops, joint trade missions and new market analysis.
The Trade Diversification Network will operate from late 2025 to June 2027 and is a key element of the Australian Government’s Accessing New Markets Initiative, which aims to help businesses manage global economic uncertainty by strengthening and diversifying export markets.
“We are delighted to be chosen by Austrade as a peak industry partner for this critical initiative, which provides a direct channel to shape and accelerate our industry’s market diversification efforts,” Grains Australia Chief Executive Officer Richard Simonaitis said.
Grains Australia was selected through a competitive process. Mr Simonaitis said the decision was positive for the entire grains value chain.
“Our focus will be on deepening engagement with partner countries, improving diversity and value for our industry and supporting improved nutritional outcomes for our customers globally,” he said.
“As an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Grains Australia’s involvement in this partnership will further strengthen our important market access function – improving market diversification, reducing trade impediments and maintaining access.”
Mr Simonaitis thanked industry groups for their support during the application process.
“We are particularly grateful for the strong support provided by Grain Producers Australia and GrainGrowers,” he said.
“We look forward to working hand-in-glove with our partners to co-design this plan, ensuring it meets the specific needs of growers and the broader industry.”
