Meet the Speakers: Aquatic Conference 2025

Aquatic is co-organised by VIV Worldwide and International Aquafeed, taking place on March 11, 2025 at Impact Challenger, Bangkok, Thailand. Aquatic is the bridge in forging the connections between knowledge and opportunities that helps to enhance key areas of the biosciences in relation to fish, shrimp, nutrition, health and more.

Roger Gilbert

Roger Gilbert, CEO of Milling and Grain

Mr Roger Gilbert was the Secretary General of the International Feed Industry Federation, which he co-founded in in 1987. In that time, he saw the federation rise from humble beginnings, to represent more than 85% of all compound feeds produced globally. He initiated the industry’s NGO representation with Codex Alimentarius and set up one of the first Memorandum of Understandings between an industry and the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Today, Mr Gilbert is the publisher of International Petfood, International Aquafeed and Milling & Grain magazine: three international magazines translated into several languages to promote aqua and terrestrial protein production.

Dr Dinesh Kaippilly

Dr Dinesh Kaippilly

Dr. Dinesh Kaippilly is a recipient of World Aquaculture Society (WAS) Fellow Award as on 2018; the second Indian to receive this prestigious award after (Late) Dr. MC Nandeesha. He served as the Director of WAS Asian Pacific Chapter from 2016-18. Dinesh has a professional experience of more than 25 years in aquaculture in various institutions including teaching experience of about 22 years in College of Fisheries and KUFOS. He has played a pivotal role in popularising Vannamei shrimp culture in Kerala by training hundreds of shrimp farmers all over the State. He propagated the concept of organic shrimp culture among the farming community with the support of COOP, Switzerland. He has been demonstrating high academic standards throughout his career driven by passion and excellence. There are more than 60 publications of various sorts to his credit including 25 journal papers, 3 books and 6 popular articles. 

Dr Ram Bhujel

Dr Ram Bhujel, Research Professor and Director of Aqua-Centre, Thailand

Ram C Bhujel began his career as Research Associate in 1995 and since 2005, he has been teaching and supervising MSc & PhD students. In 1994 he completed his MSc before achieving his PhD from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 1999, where he serves as Research Associate Professor and Founding Director of Aqua-Centre. Then in 2000-2001, he was a post-doc visiting fellow at the University of Stirling, UK and at the University of Montpellier III, France in 2012. Currently, Dr Bhujel also serves as Team Leader/Coordinator for an EU funded project to develop MSc curricula for ‘Sustainable Seafood and Nutrition Security’.

Dr Manoj Sharma

Dr Manoj Sharma

Dr Manoj Sharma is a shrimp farmer and an aquaculture expert by profession having 30 years of experience in shrimp farming. Dr Manoj has played a major role in the development of the shrimp farming in the coastal regions of Gujarat, India and a key role in the development of the Gujarat Aquaculture Association where all the shrimp farmers have united under one umbrella practicing shrimp farming. His works have been appreciated across many national and international platforms and he has been invited as a speaker across many programs. Dr Manoj is an Industry Impact Award winner for creating a technical foundation for the shrimp industry in South Gujarat which gave opportunities to coastal rural people and fishermen. He is also a national awardee recipient from National Fisheries Development Board, Government of India for ‘Best Technology Infusion/ Innovative Idea’.

Rizky Darmawan

Rizky Darmawan is the CEO of Delta Marine Group, a pioneering aquaculture company specializing in sustainable shrimp production, distribution, and processing. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Aquatic and Fisheries Sciences from the University of Washington, Seattle, Rizky combines education with innovation to reshape the shrimp industry.

As the President of Petambak Muda Indonesia since its inception in 2015, Rizky Darmawan is dedicated to educating and fostering solidarity among young aquaculturists. His leadership shines through the annual “Shrimp Aquaculture Conference” in Bali, a cornerstone event for knowledge-sharing and collaboration in the field.

Rizky’s impact extends globally through speaking engagements at prominent conferences. Notably, he is driving sustainability initiatives within the shrimp industry, exploring eco-friendly approaches to farming practices and harnessing shrimp wastes such as chitin to be processed further for various applications. With a dynamic role in Shrimp Club Indonesia and active participation in APINDO, Rizky is committed to elevating the aquaculture community and championing sustainable practices.

Dr Romi Novriadi

Dr Romi Novriadi

Dr Romi Novriadi is the Senior Lecturer at the Jakarta Technical University of Fisheries or known as Politeknik Ahli Usaha Perikanan, Agency for Marine Affairs and Fisheries Research and Development, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Republic of Indonesia.  He has published more than 35 peer review research articles which include Aquaculture nutrition, shrimp and fish farming, functional feed, immunology, aquaculture technology and diseases management. Dr Romi was awarded two scholarships, the VLIR-UOS scholarship to pursue his Master of Science in Aquaculture at Ghent University–Belgium and the Fulbright scholarship to pursue his Ph. D in Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture at the Auburn University, Alabama, USA. Currently, Dr Romi focus on the development of intensive shrimp farming system and economical aqua-feed, evaluation of nutritional requirements for shrimp and fish as well as facilitate the evaluation of novel ingredients and feed supplemental properties to enhance the growth and health status of aquatic organisms.  

Clara Trullàs

Clara Trullàs

Dr Clara Trullàs is the Product Manager of Aquaculture in Tanin Sevnica, Slovenia. She holds a Degree in Veterinary Medicine from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), a MSc in Aquaculture from Universitat de Barcelona and a PhD in Animal Production from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She was also granted a Postdoctoral Fellowship from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) in 2016, where she started working in the field of natural feed additives for aqua feeds. Her current role aims to research, develop, and promote the optimal use of phytobiotics as feed additives and ammonia binders in fish and shrimp aquaculture. She works alongside researchers, feed millers and producers, to target the industry needs with a holistic approach.
